5 Ways to use your Apple Watch while traveling
Traveling soon? We gathered 5 tips on how to use your Apple Watch for traveling, including recommended Apple Watch Travel Apps. In this short article we will go through a few tricks that will make your trip easier, thanks to your Apple Watch.
Let’s start with the obvious ones, shall we?
1. Use Apple Pay for a quick and safe payment method
You probably already have Apple Pay, and you probably already use your Apple Watch to pay without having to take out your iPhone or your wallet. But, in case you still haven't started using it, we definitely recommend using it as you travel. While traveling, you want your wallet and phone as safe as possible, and you want to be able to walk around freely and pay in the easiest way. Using Apple Pay with your Apple Watch is the easiest and the safest way to pay as you explore, especially if you’re carrying lots of things.
2. Use Google Maps to plan your route and navigate hands free
This one may seem obvious to some people, but Google Maps is a great tool to travel with. While you’re planning your trip, you can simply pin on a map the locations you would like to visit, and use the App to navigate the city you’re visiting.
One of its advantages for navigating is the Apple Watch Haptic Feedback. When you need to turn, the Apple Watch will vibrate, alerting you. If you’re in the wrong direction, it will vibrate for an extended period of time, making sure you know you need to go back.
With Google Maps on your Apple Watch, you can walk around hands free and keep your phone somewhere safe. The Haptic feedback will let you know what's up, and you'll be able to use your hands to carry things or just keep them in your pocket if you're traveling somewhere cold. Either way, it's easier than walking around with your phone, trying to figure out where the next turn is.
3. Download Podcasts to pass time on the plane
Whether you’re using Apple Podcasts, Spotify or any other Podcasts App, podcasts are a great way to pass time during flights or public transport. Use your Apple Watch to listen to your favorite episodes, save battery on your iPhone and watch the time fly (pun intended).
Just make sure you download the episodes you want to listen to before you get on the plane, because once your devices are on airplane mode you won't be able to access new content.
4. Use iTranslate as a way to communicate with locals
iTranslate is an App for translating and learning new languages. The app has a useful feature that allows you to converse in real time, while each side speaks their own language.
The app will read back the translated version so the other person can hear what you want to say. If you install it on your Apple Watch, you don’t even need to take out your phone. You can watch this video to see how it works:
5. Use A Currency Converter to keep track of your expenses in real time
Imagine this scenario - you’re 3 hours into shopping, your hands are full of bags, and you need to take out your phone to calculate how much these cute jeans cost. You can leave this scenario in your imagination if you just use a Currency Converter in your Apple Watch.
That's it for this time. We hope you found value in this article.
